The Shengdong VAM oxidation equipment consists of oxidation bed and control system. According to the theory of accumulating heat when exhausting and pre-heating when air-intaking, it realize hot air combustion periodically .The process of the oxidation equipment is as follows:
The oxidation bed is heated up to a workable temperature about 1000 by electricity. Then the VAM is piped in oxidation bed by the draught fan .When the VAM is oxidized it will be exothermic. In the oxidation bed it will accumulating heat at the side of exhausting part and pre-heating at the side of inletting part. The VAM will be changed the flow direction by the commutator. After oxidation, part of the oxidation energy use to keep the oxidation environment, the overplus energy output from the oxidation bed in the form of steam. When the equipment works automatically depending on the oxidation energy the electricity will be turned off.
Using Shengdong VAM at a concentration of 0.9 per cent, high-grade steam is generated and used to drive a conventional power plant steam turbine. The plant is thereby using a fuel consisting of ventilation air with more than 99 per cent air.

Methane released by coal mining operations, known as coal mine methane (CMM), is a potent greenhouse gas (GHG). Currently a fraction of CMM emissions is recovered for safety purposes and sometimes used as an energy source. Meanwhile, more than 50% of all CMM originates from mine ventilation systems and remains virtually unexploited.

Shengdong VAM converts methane into carbon dioxide and water vapor using the proven principle of regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO). RTO is based on the cyclic reversal of the airflow through multiple vessels filled with heat absorbing ceramic media that act as a heat exchanger. Thus, the Shengdong VAM system destroys VAM in a self-sustained manner even at extremely low methane levels.
